It is currently being praised in comments and reviews as the most relevant story to pick up Rei for, and I can't say I disagree. Saikoroshi-hen is more in line with the mystery/thriller/horror vibes that the series is known for, a sort of epilogue that places the well-fought Good Ending from Chapters 1-8 into jeopardy. As it happens, this set of stories are to be read after completing the main story in Chapters 1-8 and largely serve as What If? bonus content.
